Chapter 8 Narrative Text (Part 1, and 2)

Part 1

 A. Definition Of Narrative Text:

  

  Narrative text is a fictional story or an essay made to entertain the reader. We usually encounter narrative texts in the form of fairy tales, folk tales, and other fictional stories.

B. Purpose Of Narrative Text:

  As mentioned above, is to entertain the reader/listener in a story with sequential events that lead to a climax, and finally find a solution.

C. Generic Structure Of Narrative Text:

a). Orientation

b). Complication

c). Resolution

 example of narrative text that I made:

 Malin Kundang

    Once upon a time, there was a poor fishermannamed Malin Kundang who lived in a small village on the coast of West Sumatra, Indonesia.  Despite his humble origins, Malin Kundang had dreams of wealth and success, and he left his village to seek his fortune in the big city.

   Years passed, and Malin Kundang became very rich through his hard work and business acumen.  He married a beautiful woman and had a son, but he never returned to his village or acknowledged his past.

   One day, Malin Kundang's ship was anchored near the coast of his hometown, and he saw an old woman waving at him from the shore.  She was none other than his mother, who had been looking for him for years.  Malin Kundang was embarrassed by his humble origins and refused to admit it, instead ordering his crew to sail and leave the coast.

   As the ship sailed away, a storm suddenly arose, and the ship was hit by huge waves.  Malin Kundang tried to save himself, but he slipped and fell to the deck, where he was struck by lightning and turned into a stone statue.

Characteristics of Narrative Text is:

 ~ Using the Action Verb in the Past Tense form.

 ~ Using certain nouns as pronouns for people, animals and certain objects in the story.

 ~ Using Adjectives that form noun phrases.

 ~ Using Time Connectives and Conjunctions to sequence events.

 ~ Using Adverbs and Adverbial Phrase to indicate the location of events or events.
